Your Ultimate Summer Camping Packing List

How To, Travel June 28, 2018

There’s nothing like a summer camping trip. We love venturing into the great outdoors, setting up camp, and relaxing under the stars. When we take into account the hot weather, the insect population, and Murphy’s Law (what can go wrong, will go wrong), our packing lists seem to grow before our eyes. But, fear not! Aside from clothes and gear, we’ve assembled the ultimate summer camping packing list to take the fuss out of any trip you have planned this year. Keep this post handy when prepping for the easiest camping trip ever!

Water, Water, Water

We’ll say this simply: bring more than you think you need. Chances are, you’ll be busy hiking and exploring, and warm weather means dehydration is lurking. Staying hydrated is important, especially in the wilderness. Bring a refillable water bottle to take with you on excursions and stash several gallons back at camp.

Batteries

The best part of summer camping trips? Being away from technology. For some of us, this could also be the worst part of summer camping trips. But, luckily, there are battery-powered versions of essentials, such as fans, flashlights, and clocks. We recommend taking a pack of extra batteries with you to camp. We love Duracell Coppertop Alkaline Batteries for extended trips.

First Aid

If you’ve been following our blog for a long time, you know that we can’t stop emphasizing the importance of a first aid kit. You never know what can happen. Whenever we’re out and about, we always have our Johnson & Johnson All-Purpose First Aid Kit with us. No matter what minor injuries may occur, we’re prepared. A scrape? We’ll have bandages. A bump or a bruise? We have a cold pack. It may seem silly to carry an entire kit with you, but trust us. It just might come in handy.

Vaseline

We get it; not everyone is going to want to bring an entire first aid kit on every hike or outing. Sometimes it might be easier to leave the kit back at camp. But, what if something happens? Enter your backup: Vaseline. A thin layer of Vaseline over minor cuts and scrapes can provide enough protection until you’re able to grab a Band-Aid.

Bug Spray

Bug spray easily earns a spot on our summer camping packing list. Insects are on the move all season long, so we recommend preparing yourself accordingly. Giving yourself and your loved ones a spritz of bug spray protects you against mosquitoes that carry West Nile Virus or Zika. We suggest choosing a formula with a non-greasy finish.

Sunscreen

With constant sun beating down, sunburns are a risk you have to be willing to take. Keeping sunscreen on hand helps lower the risk. Our current favorite formula? Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Lotion. It has SPF 30 and is formulated with antioxidants that nourish the skin with each use. Plus, it’s water-resistant for up to 80 minutes. Just be sure to reapply frequently!

Aloe Vera Gel

No matter how much sunscreen you put on, sometimes you just get burned. Aloe Vera gel is an easy sunburn remedy that works! It provides immediate relief from itching and irritation. Fruit of the Earth’s formula is also fragrance-free, dye-free, and alcohol-free. What’s not to love?

Cleansing Wipes

Depending on how long you’ll be roughing it, you may not have access to an adequate shower. Stashing a packet of cleansing wipes in your bag is a quick, easy way to remove grime and feel fresh while on the go. We suggest using Pond’s Wet Cleansing Towelettes for your body and Wet Ones Antibacterial Towelettes for your hands before eating.
